Adoptive/Foster/Guardianship et.al
In my family tree, I have a number of persons who are legally adopted [easy to sort], it is the family members that have not been legally adopted - what/how do I put them into the system - foster or guardianship [what is the difference]. A number of Aunties/Uncles etc., are fanau through the Samoan adoption practice. Furthermore, I will include these Aunties/Uncles in our family tree, just wanting assistance as to how I define them
NB: during my research, an Aunty told me "Samoan adoption practice, was never problematic but it is now an issue of contention as genealogy means rights to land and titles . Right now this is a very sensitive issue [in Samoa]. It was okay in the past where it takes a village to raise a child, however, as we become individualistic we lose this important part of being family

Searching on google gave this distinction between guardianship and fostering a child. A legal guardian can make decisions on behalf of the child, but the child maintains a legal connection with his or her birth parents. Guardians can be permanent, temporary, or limited. ... Foster Care provides temporary care for a child who can't live with his or her own family.
The below article should be of help to you in answering how to add these types of children into your tree.
I would also suggest that you contact https://go.oncehub.com/ResearchStrategySession which is a free research consultation. You would be able to specify someone that is understanding of your culture. You can also find this on community under Research help - then click Free Research Consultation.
You can also look through our groups section to see if you find a group knowing your culture that would be helpful.
Hope this helps you. Good luck.
