Image Search - list only "Current Place" results?
Hello,
I have a question about the Image-Search (under Search->Images). Lets say I search for "Germany". This will bring up this page: https://www.familysearch.org/records/images/search-results?page=1&place=222
This search shows 247K results in total. In the left menue/form I see two different things.
- "Current Place" (aka "Germany") with around 5K results
- 34 Subcategories ("Places Within") with several thousand results each
Now the problem. What if I only want to see the 5K "Germany" only results? The main record listing in the center obviously shows all results ("Germany" + all results for the subcategories).
Of course I can't page through all 247K results, because I would go insanse, but also because only the 1st 10K results are listed anyway. From here I can only go into the subcategories, but that would exclude the mentioned 5K "Germany"-only results.
So my question is, how can I see these 5K results and only them? I can't seem to find a way to do that, is there a hidden URL parameter to exclude subcategories ("Places Within")?
Does anyone has an idea?

Not a direct answer to your question, I'm afraid. Just my advice to look for the records you are seeking from the Catalog section, rather than from Images.
As Catalog updates are frozen at the moment, I admit you might not find any recently added records there. However, in general I would only use Images only as a last resort. If I search on a particular place within a country, I often find records have been added (in Images) below incorrect sub-sections of that place, so it just takes far too long to locate the images I am seeking.
Like other users, I have found inputting a location in the Catalog section (whether that of a country, or small locality within that country) will take me to any available images far more easily.
Having said that, the link you provide (above) shows how bad this section has been developed. Just what does it mean when there are a stated 5,323 records for Germany, when the numbers below add up to a number far higher than that? Presumably, those records apply to national records - i.e. they do not relate to specific locations within the country. That being the case, I hope someone can advise how you can view details of these 5,323 records.
Hopefully, we are both missing something that is obvious to other users!

Thanks for your thoughts!
Yes, I could try the catalog section, thats true. Catalog and image search both have advantages and disadvantages. There are some things I rather like about the Image search, so I'm still hoping that there is a way to fix the listing to only show the records which are categorized under "current place"and not "places within".
