FamilySearch Response to BMD Marriage Names
From memory, on previous searches for marriages, the response usually contained at least 3 names to choose from. A search today for a 1965 Marriage:-
"England and Wales Marriage Registration Index, 1837-2005," database, FamilySearch (https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:QV63-4STC : 8 October 2014), Irene Burdon and null, 1965; from "England & Wales Marriages, 1837-2005," database, findmypast (http://www.findmypast.com : 2012); citing 1965, quarter 4, vol. 1B, p. 108, Newcastle Upon Tyne, Northumberland, England, General Register Office, Southport, England.
This returned a result with only 1 name, that of a female.
Please advise???

Searching specifically for a 1965 marriage of an Irene Burdon in England, I got just the one result using both FamilySearch and the FreeREG website. This is the one you found that was registered in the Newcastle upon Tyne registration district.
You do not state if you made a wider search on Burdon marriages, or just for "Irene Burdon". Your comment: "This returned a result with only 1 name, that of a female" suggests you were making a search for other Burdon marriages, too. Perhaps you could explain the input detail you applied. For example, are you just wanting results for 1965, or any particular area?

I must have been having a senior moment, unlikely to find the marriage record using her married name. Sorted now many thanks for your response.
