Data Validation for Indexing United States-Enlisted and Officer Muster Rolls and Rosters, 1916-1939

This idea is concerned with the above project and recently reviewed batch [Part L][M3XJ-SLF].

I have run into a number of batches in this project where the indexer is recording the

"Military Year" as a 2-digit entry, ie "17" rather than "1917".

The instructions indicate that this requires a 4-digit input, ie "1917".

I just tested this requirement in the indicated batch that I reviewed, leaving entry

"17" with the indexed entry of "17". When I selected "Submit Batch" it showed

"No issues found" & allowed me to submit the batch. FYI - entry 17 needs to be

corrected to show "1917".

Suggestion - implement data confirmation requiring this field to be a 4-digit entry during the indexing process.

@KennethReed4 I agree with that. I like that suggestion. If it is part of the instructions, it should be flagged as an issue and not allow submission.

I have one addition, however. What if the indexer does not know if it was 1800's, 1900's, or 2000's? I have had very few of those situations as an indexer, but they have happened. Maybe the instructions already state if you do not know, you leave it blank, but I cannot recall if that is included or not?

    Thanks for posting the suggestion!
