UK, England, Northumberland—Nonconformist Church Records, 1613–1920 [Part B][MSPF-V5G]

Hello, I am used to indexing Latin names, but find sometimes both the Latin name and the translated name appear for the same person. Since most of the text for the entries is in Latin, and only sometimes the translated name appears, I have been indexing what appears in Latin only, and not adding the translated name. The instructions only say not to translate, but nothing about either choosing the translated name or the Latin text, or both Please send thoughts my way. Perhaps I have missed a note about this.

I am adding the record information, as an example, though I have already submitted the record.

Thank you.

I think this might be a situation for the valid use of Alias names:

    Given name: Latin Or translated

    Alias Names

    • If alias names were included on a document or if an individual's name was listed with various spellings on the document, include all variants, separating each with the word Or. For example, if a name was written as "Georgios (George), George Broski, George Browzowski, or George Brzozowski," you would index the name fields as follows:
    • Given Name: Georgios Or George
    • Surname: Broski Or Browzowski Or Brzozowski

This is regularly used when there are alternate spellings - but in this case where the Document provides a translation - I'd probably just use Or here too.

It would be interesting to know if the new Language Options will take this rare bit of indexed information into account.
