BMD Films from Poland made Available?
Hello. I would like to know whether the following films would be available for viewing.
BMD 1829-1830 719554 #2; BMD 1831-1842 719555; BMD 1843-1849 719556; & BMD 1850-1859 719557. I contacted FS through a chat a month ago and they said to go to my local family history centre to view the films. I drove to centre and they were unable to help me and didn't know anything about these films. What can I do to be able to get access to these films? Thank you.

@Debbie Thoms So sorry to hear that your local family history center did not know how to help you access the records on the microfilms you wanted to view. The digitized versions are viewable from any official family history center. Maybe they thought you wanted to look at physical microfilms that they did not have in their center?
When you go to a family history center, you should be able to use one of their computers to find and view the digitized film entries:
- Sign in to FamilySearch.org
- At the top, click Search and then Catalog.
- Under Search For, click Film/Fiche/Image Group Number (DGS).
- Enter one of your film numbers (we used 719554) and click Search.
- You see 2 search results--one for Catholic records and one for Protestant records. Click the one that you want to look at.
- In the Film/Digital Notes section, find the film number. Since there are a lot of numbers on the page, try pressing Ctrl and F at the same time to open a search box. Then enter the film number in the search box that pops up on your screen (at the top or bottom, depending on your internet browser).
- Notice that these entries show, in the far-right column, a camera icon. In a family history center, you should be able to click that icon and begin looking at the images. If you can't, please ask a center worker to contact FamilySearch for help. Something is amiss with their computer set-up.
One more note. Some of the entries in the catalog show something like "719954 Item 2". When you see an item number, you know that the digitized film has more than one record set on it. Every time you click a camera icon to look at images, it will open with Item 1 of the digitized film. So, if the entry said Item 3, you'd need to move through the images until you got to the right record set. Here is a link to one of our Help Center articles that can help as you browse through the film images:
Hope that will help you!

Thank you very much for the information. I had someone go and try the film number 719554 also. Unfortunately it looks like that particular film has restrictions on it so it is not available to look at.

I am not connected with FamilySearch
The catalogue entry for 719554 is https://www.familysearch.org/search/catalog/results?count=20&query=%2Bfilm_number%3A719554 (two items) Both these show the film is available at a family history center.
If you are being told that this film is not available, it sounds as though the new Family History Portal has not been set up on the computers at your family history center.
This previous topic explains the procedure Family History Center Portals (click on the link) FamilySearch Community Forum 15 September 2021.
You could contact your family History center and ask if they have installed the Portal which allows access to restricted digitised microfilms. If not, ask that they install the Portal.
