Family Search Totals, and badges?
In the family search community profile, we all see that we get badges right? For commenting, likes, time, answers and more. I propose we have a couple new badges like, Indexer, Reviewer.
I was going to suggest badges for amount of names indexed, like how it does amount of comments and such, but that seemed off. I decided its supposed to be out of the goodness of our hearts, not a race for badges leading to sloppy indexing/reviewing, etc. However i think putting in a Indexer, and Reviewer badge would be pretty cool.
thanks

I like the badge idea. . . an anniversary badge, a milestone badge, etc.
Could make the "My Contributions" page more interesting.

I am just another 'lowly' User/Patron ...
[ And, I happen to be a Member of the Church ... ]
You appear, to be relatively new, to the "Community.FamilySearch' Forum.
And, I do not know, how long you have been, using 'FamilySearch'; or, doing "Indexing".
As such ...
Just a little background ...
The Wards/Branches (Stakes/Districts), of the Church, used to get the "Details" (ie. Statistical, Quantiles) of the work of individual "Indexers", on a "Monthly" Report.
Not so long ago, those "Details" (ie. Statistical, Quantiles) of the work of individual "Indexers", were summarily "Removed"/"Deleted", from those Reports; BECAUSE, in some cases, those "Details" were INCORRECTLY used, by some, to "Name" and "Shame".
Personally, I hope that such "Details" (ie. Statistical, Quantiles) of the work of individual "Indexers", NEVER finds its way, back to those Reports.
[ NOT that such was every a problem/issue, in my 'Locality'; but, unfortunately, such did happen ... ]
As far as I was aware, "Indexers", can 'see' their OWN Statistical, Quantiles, of the work that they have Indexed - if they so desire.
[ But, I have never 'looked', for; and/or, at, such ... ]
I simply just do not understand, the NEED by People, to 'keep tabs', on what "Indexing" work that they have done/completed.
Regardless of what one thinks ...
Doing "Indexing", in 'FamilySearch', SHOULD always be, a SERVICE that WE provide to others, WITHOUT the EXPECTATION of, BENEFIT; and/or, GAIN; and/or, RECOMPSESE; and/or, ANY form of REMUNERATION, whatsoever ...
That is the plain and simple, 'nature', of DOING "Indexing", in 'FamilySearch' ...
Like it or not ...
▬ "Indexing", in 'FamilySearch', SHOULD "Only' ever, be about "QUALITY" ...
▬ "Indexing", in 'FamilySearch', should NOT ever, be about "Quantity" ...
Just my thoughts.
Brett
ps: As such, I am sorry, I just DO NOT see the NEED for the "Badges", that you propose ... but, that is just me.

In a way, I agree with Brett about the quality vs. quantity, but in a larger way, I definitely agree with Colin. I LOVE the idea of those badges. It isn't about a race to get more than others, but I see them as personal accomplishments and recognition, and besides, they make me smile, haha!
I started keeping a Temple journal in 2011. I write whenever I go, listing what ordinances and how many, plus any amazing experiences I had or special people I went with. I LOVE seeing the numbers. Those numbers represent PEOPLE who lived and who I will get to see on the other side. I love the reminder of all the work I have done. It's not about the numbers, per se, but it IS about the numbers, because they represent my time in the temple, my service there, and the increased spirit that I get to take home with me to my children who have been gaining testimonies of their own about temple work because they see what their mom is doing.
The same applies to Indexing. And let me tell you, 4 of my 6 kids have surpassed my numbers by thousands!! It's not about the numbers, but it IS about the numbers. One of my sons reached 10,000 by the time he was 14 (and he always had mom check his work). That is MOST DEFINITELY worth a badge! My kids rock. I'd love to see them get badges that represent them "passing up" mom -- the family history guru in the home, haha!
So, I say bring on the badges! For those who don't care about them, they can be ignored, but for those of us like me who get a smile from them, I'd love to see more!

you are absolutely right! Its not that someone just has more numbers than someone else, its that each 'number' is a real human being that lived, which makes it important to do even more. I hope one day to meet them.
Your idea of a temple journal is genius and I hope to make one like yours also! Your family also sounds awesome, congrats on all the work done! Im the only one in my family that does family search work, so its alittle lonely. However, Its people like you guys in the family search community tab that are great support, and motivators.
Thank you so much for your imput on my thread. Good luck, and happy indexing!
