Please Help! I need an answer and can’t find this topic anywhere
Please help! I have been working on my family search family tree for a couple of years now. There is someone else working on the same line as me that is changing names of cousins to “wrong Mary do not edit.” They contacted me and told me when I attached a record that half their tree went missing and that this is the 5th time someone has done this to them. They are insisting that I’m following the wrong family. I do not want to give up the hobby that I love over this but I honestly don’t know what to do. This person said they are working on the tree for their boyfriend and that they have tons of evidence. They are also horribly rude.Does anyone know what I should do? Like I said I don’t want to give up my hobby but don’t want to continue this unproductive dispute either.

One option is to "abandon" the profiles that this person seems so attached to: delete the relationship between your ancestors and the disputed profiles, and create new profiles for your family. Attach all of the sources that you can find, and spell out your reasoning: make the new profiles as robust and clean as you possibly can. If you get a "possible duplicate" message between one of the new profiles and one of the ones that the other user feels ownership of, dismiss the duplicate as "not a match", giving as the reason a neutrally-worded summary of the dispute. (Or as neutrally-worded as you can manage, anyway.)

They are adding people back to the 1500’s with no sources or anything attached to them. My French Canadian family has now turned into an Italian family with no sources.
