Good afternoon,

I am indexing Georgia Tax digests and the handwriting is not easy to read.

In that batch I need help with the names in the entries # 2,5, 7, 13, and 18.

Also, what should I add after entry #7, if there is a note about children?

The last entry contains two names, I did two different entries- #29 & 30. Is it right?

Thank you for your help in advance.

Larisa V.

    Hi!

What pretty and super fancy writing. Here are my suggestions:

    #2 - Thos McCrary

I think you're spot on with 5, 7, 13 and 18. It's super faint, but you can see the cross mark of what is probably a t on Mrs Martha Brown (18).

I wouldn't worry about the note about the children. Since indexing the record is primarily to make it searchable, the researcher should be looking at the original document, where they'll see the note.

I think you did the last entry just right because this is from the instructions:

    • If multiple names were recorded on a single line, or in multiple columns, create a separate entry for each name.

    Happy Indexing!

I am also working on these records, however I am primarily reviewing. Although there is no indication of people's gender in the document, some indexers fill in the blank asking for the person's sex and it appears that they are doing it based on whether they think the name is a male or female name. Let's all remember to index only what is given in the document and not add information based on opinion. Thanks.
