the problem seems to be with using " exact " ??

Not always, but this is often the case. Where it is, it is usually due to a name (person or place) being omitted from a search field, but the "Exact" box against the name being checked. Many users believe the search is being made on the date range - well it is (or should be), but you cannot leave name fields empty in these cases (i.e., if "Exact" has been checked).

Paul you are correct and i double check for that.
BUT, there is still a problem when putting exact with all other detail correct.
As of know I am just gritting my teeth and keep on trying.

It appears that failing to fill in the place field if you choose an exact search for a life event no longer returns an error message. Tried it this morning, and I got reasonable results. I do notice that, after clicking Search, the sidebar on the right simply no longer shows an exact search for the place if I failed to enter data there. So, an improvement. It would probably be better for the system to put up a prompt to fill in the missing field, but this is better than a generic error message.
