Welcome to the "Community.FamilySearch" Forum.
I am just another 'lowly' User/Patron ...
Question:
Regarding the GEDCOM File, that you are "Uploading", at what stage of the Process, are you having the problem/issue:
▬ Phase 1: Into the "Genealogies" Part of 'FamilySearch';
or, the later.
▬ Phase 2: Into "Family Tree", of 'FamilySearch'
Please advise of the actual situation/circumstance.
'Thank You' in advance.

Into the fmaily tree (phase 2)..

I click the upload gedcom file button, select the file, select upload (I assume data transfers) and then the status sits at processing. Now that I did it a fourth time it appears to have worked (however there are 3 previous files in limbo that I cannot remove etc)

Hang-On ...
It sounds like, you have simply just done, Phase 1: Into the "Genealogies", Part of 'FamilySearch'.
To "Delete" any GEDCOM Files, that you no longer want in the "Genealogies" Part, of 'FamilySearch' ...
You simply "Delete" them from the "List", in the bottom half of:
https://www.familysearch.org/tree/import/files
Titled: "My Uploaded Trees".
Question: Does that work?
Please advise.

'Yes', that does not look too good.
Looks like, those GECOM Files, are STUCK in 'Limbo".
Hopefully, a "Moderator" [ ie. 'FamilySearch' "Support" (Personnel) ], here in this Forum, can take this matter, into the Workings of 'FamilySearch' "Support", to better assist you.
I am sorry, I have not come across such before.
So, I cannot suggest any more.

Thanks Brett.
Kind of what I figured. I just wasn't sure how to contact FS Support these days.

Hello @SteveL3,
Here are a couple of things you can try to get rid of the ongoing processing of your upload.
- If FamilySearch does not seem to be working correctly in the browser you are using, you can try a different browser, or check for updates to the browser you are using.
- Over time, a large cache of temporary files and cookies accumulates and can cause problems when you use the FamilySearch website. Deleting these may help. If you clear all cookies, it can affect your access to other websites. Try these steps first:
- Make sure you use a supported Internet browser.
- Delete just the cookies that FamilySearch uses.
- Go to https://FamilySearch.org/cookies.
- When the message Reset your cookies? appears, click Yes.
- If the problems still occur, clear all of your temporary files and cookies. Then restart your computer. Please search the web for instructions for your specific browser.
- If you still have problems, delete your autocomplete history. Search the web for instructions for your specific browser.
Best Wishes!

We used your Helper Information to access your Family Tree, to investigate. We see you uploaded two GEDCOM files on the October 25th, and another on October 30th. And they are still processing. We wonder if you did the following prior to uploading your File:
Before you start
- The genealogical software you are using is likely to allow you to export information into a GEDCOM file. GEDCOM files are the industry standard for transferring information between genealogy programs.
- Review the information in your GEDCOM file. Check for errors with tools in your record manager:
- Make sure that the names, dates, and places display in a standard way.
- Make sure that your notes are ready to share publicly.
- Check for possible problems.
- Check for duplicate individuals.
- Check for duplicate place-names.
- Check for unattached individuals.
- Examine the information you want to submit for anything you do not want to publish:
- Look through the notes and other unstructured information. Mark information that you do not want to publish as confidential, or delete it. Then create the GEDCOM file.
- Our processes scan your file to identify people in your tree who could still be living. Living records do not display in the Pedigree Resource File.
- Create your GEDCOM file.
- If you do not know how, see the instructions that come with your program.
- If you plan to copy the information to Family Tree, we recommend that you submit small GEDCOM files of no more than100 name. After the upload, smaller files make the compare and copy process easier to manage.
- If you intend to simply preserve and share your file, it can contain up to 100 MB.
- We suggest you delete files and cookies, to see if that will allow the processing to be completed. Press Ctrl+Shift+Del (Windows users).
- Cmd+Shift+Del (Mac users).
You might wish to try another browser to see if it will all the process to finish. Choices are:
- Apple Safari—the current version and one previous
- Google Chrome—the current version and one previous
- Microsoft Edge—the current version and one previous
- Mozilla Firefox—the current version and one previous
Also be sure your operating system is up to date.
Wee hope this will help with the GEDCOM processing issue.

Hi @SteveL3
I did notice that you have now tried to upload 3-different GEDCOM files and all three still remain as "processing". To try to assist you to find out why this is happening, I will be forwarding this concern to the department that can investigate to see if this process is working as designed.
Thank you for your patience with this concern. You should hear directly either in the Community or by email when the issue has been reviewed and resolved.
We did notice that there does not appear to be a name attached to any of the files you have tried to upload. Did you follow the instructions about naming your file before you begin the upload process? That may be what is holding up the process. Perhaps you can try one more time while you wait for additional assistance making certain that your file has a "name.ged" file name as you try to do the upload.

The 3 now phantom files I believe were all named "upload.ged"

As I sign into your account as your helper now to see what shows under Submit Tree, the only file that has any kind of name is called "upload.ged" and it is the only file that completed the upload and comparison process so that you could work with it.
I don't believe there is a way to remove the other three attempts, but I did forward a request to remove those unsuccessful attempts if it is possible. In the future, if you work with a GEDCOM, please provide a name for the GEDCOM to allow the system to act as designed. You may be notified personally if something more can be done with the files that did not load.

I am sorry ...
I did not even catch that ...
That those THREE (x3) GEDCOM Files still Processing DID NOT have a "File Name".
IF, those THREE (x3) GEDCOM Files, still Processing, DID NOT have, a "File Name"; THEN, I would suggest that such would be the cause of the problem/issue; but, I would have thought, that such GEDCOM Files would have, had; and, need a "File Name", in the first place - very strange/odd indeed ...
