DNA Makes all previous research incorrect.
I was just notified by a stranger than the father I thought was my father is not my father based on her DNA she had done at Ancestry. I am 81 years old and have invested a lot of time and money and travel to put together my tree and now half of it is not true. It also appears incorrect on my Family Search tree and I do not know how to edit it. There is no paper trail about this but I have done some research and know it is true. i look just like the man that was my real father and nothing like the man who raised me. I am sure this is going to be a big problem as more people have their DNA done. I had my DNA done several years ago at Ancestry and it has taken this long for all of this to catch up with me. I am positive the man who raised me genuinely thought he was my biological father......I am glad he is not alive for me to explain such a shocking revelation. Bonnie Levitan

DNA can unlock some surprising revelations about our biological relationships. You mentioned the that father who raised you is incorrectly displayed a your biological father on the shared Family Tree at FamilySearch. It is possible to edit the relationship and replace the father who raised you with your biological father. It is also possible to edit the relationships to keep the family ties you have with the father who raised you by designating him as adoptive, step, father or guardianship. None of those categories completely apply to your situation but using one of them might allow you to show both fathers- the one who loved and raised you and the one with only biological ties. FamilySearch representatives can help you online through a free Zoom meeting if you would like to speak to a real person who can guide you through the process of how to make the changes.
