I am reviewing Boston Tax records. Where did the indexer find the year? I am wondering if I can find it for other batches, or if I should remove it.

If you list the batch code it will be easier to answer your question concerning the batch you are reviewing.

You can find the batch code at the top of the Indexing view

    Project Name [Batch code]

    or

    Help (menu)> Share Batch

It may be that the Reference Images have the year?

It would help to see a batch.

But, this might be the same as an earlier question that was asked. If they are using 1870 or 1871, it is probably because there is a column on the record that says "assessed to 1870".

In looking at the example of how to index a tax record without column headers, they used 1857 as a date. https://www.familysearch.org/indexing/images?fs-cache=true&key=idx-deepzoom-image&image=444d507b-6f95-4003-84e8-2276b8658e86

But, again, as I said in the earlier post, my house is assessed every 5 years - so that would not necessarily be the year of my tax records. (Close, but could be off by 4 years).
