Microfilm search
Hello.
Would someone be availible to look at the microfilm for Rowan County North Carolina 1778 tax list , CaptaIn Davis's district ? I was wanting a clean copy of the index page #49. I am trying to read the name of my ancestor Barnet (?) Wire. I cannot make out the initial from the xerox copy online.
Thank You

Thank you for your reply, but it looks like is kind of curved as opposed to a sharp upward point. Thats why I was hoping to see the original image. 😉

We went to the Catalog to try to find a copy of this. Under the Search tab, click Catalog to get to this page: https://www.familysearch.org/search/catalog.
Type Rowan into the search, then click on United States, North Carolina, Rowan below. Click Search. That takes you to this page: https://www.familysearch.org/search/catalog/results?count=20&placeId=191329&query=%2Bplace%3A%22United%20States%2C%20North%20Carolina%2C%20Rowan%22.
We tried clicking on United States, North Carolina, Rowan - Taxation - Indexes ( 2 ), but the only helpful thing there seems to be a book that is not visible online.
Then we tried United States, North Carolina, Rowan - Taxation ( 15 ). There are several things there that could be useful. We looked particularly for something that looked official. Historical records kept by Register of Deeds seems hopeful, since the author is Rowan County (North Carolina). Register of Deeds. When we clicked and went to it, it does say that it includes tax lists: https://www.familysearch.org/search/catalog/687836?availability=Family%20History%20Library
We clicked the camera in the Film/Digital Notes section and started to explore. We see that there is an index on image 7: https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3QS7-998W-Q2WX?i=6&cat=687836.
The contents seem to be transcriptions, not the original records, but you may find a page similar to the one you posted, and they seem easier to read.
Please note that the index refers to page numbers, not image numbers. There seem to be two pages to an image, so you can guess about where the page you want would be and use these instructions to navigate:
· To move image by image through the collection, in the upper left portion of the image screen, use the arrows.
· In the box between the arrows, enter a number to jump to a specific image number. Then press Enter on your keyboard.
· To change between smaller images (thumbnails) and full images, on the far left of the image, click the icon directly below the minus sign. (It looks like a Rubik’s cube with a missing square.)
· To make an image larger, in the thumbnail view, double-click the image. This takes you to the full image. To make that bigger or smaller, use the + or – signs.
We hope this helps. If not, you may want to look at some of the other sources in the Catalog search results. We wish you success in researching your North Carolina ancestors.

Thank you for your help, I found his name but not the index i was looking for. It may be the index that was made when the images were transfered .
