Probably not the best forum for complaints, but...

Along with everyone else this new interface is a big step backward.

In addition, the system has slowed down considerable for me. I am constantly getting 'frozen' windows, watching a circle go round and round and round and round until I eventually close the window and try again. I can't get any work done.

Please return to the old interface - at least it worked.

@Al Teasdale Yes, you're right there is no specific section for complaints, only suggestions for ideas or requests for help. Nevertheless, your suggestion to revert to the previous interface is not alone. There are many thousands of comments in the Community forum which support the idea, and a lot of discussion about how the new format seems to have been developed without sufficient user involvement. To date there had been no indication that there is even the slightest chance of returning to the previous format. In the interim, many expert and ordinary (like me) users have kept plugging away at the "New Search" to see if we can find a way to make it work as well as the previous version. The concensus seems to be that it does not, and cannot be made to. Among the discussions are an increasing number of descriptions of failings in the search matching mechanism as well as difficulty with the arrangement and presentation of the search page elements. My own experience of the last few weeks has shown that research work has slowed dramatically as a direct result of the awkwardness of the new format.

I have tried a number of workarounds to save time, such as saving a series of bookmarks of advanced searches (i.e. with the More Options pane open) with a set of different basic search criteria. Even so, the results that are returned are clearly not as good as they used to be and it is taking a lot more time to sift through them. It is unlikely that I will complete my projects unless I can find a better way. Many users have already said that they will stop using Familysearch because of the new interface. I fear that I might join them, which is not an easy decision to make after being involved for over 30 years.

    Follow-up:

My earlier statement "To date there had been no indication that there is even the slightest chance of returning to the previous format. " might be a little premature. There are indications of change:

    • After:

Change is in the wind ! Keep up the pressure. (in millibars. Conversion to p.s.i available on the web)
