searching for relatives dates/events

I find it nearly impossible to find anyone I ask for. When I ask for someone by specific dates, 'from and to', I get an assortment of dates bearing no relation to what I asked for or in the specific County I requested or when I ask for marriages, I get an assortment of events ie deaths, spouses, births. Impossible to work with so I now use other sites that are more user friendly. I do come back occasionally to check for improvements but so far nothing has changed.

Give a specific example and maybe someone can come along and help learn how to filter the results down to something useful.

Whilst I thoroughly dislike the new search engine, I do not seem to be having the same difficulties reported by many users. As genthusiast suggests, provide an example and others should be able to help in showing how to reduce your results to being close to - if not quite exactly - what you are hoping to see.

@robroyofinversnaid, it appears that you are referring to the Search function in FamilySearch. It is most difficult to speculate on what the specific problem is that causes your search research to be so far afield from what you expected without understanding how you set up the search.

If you would like to provide a URL to you search results that would allow me to see the search parameters and results,, together. In this way, I'd be able give you a better answer.

In the meantime, it's possible the the Help Center article, "Best practices and search tips for historical records" may provide some assistance. But, if you'll give me the URL, I'll take a closer look at it.

Hopefully, we can clear this up and get you some good results.

I am also going to move this discussion to the appropriate category. You may see your discussion labeled as "Closed"; however, that only means that it is closed in this category. If you click on the discussion, you will see it open it the new Category: Search.
