Recent changes in search engine
I find the new search engine changes do a much poorer job of finding "good" matches. In the past I have been able to customize my search with great success. For example, when searching for a particular census year/location, I could type in "Residence location" along with "year" removing birth/death info, and it would take me to that location and year, with good success of finding what I was seeking. Now the names are being deciphered differently and the locations seems to expand way beyond location searching.
For example, G7QK-H54. I want to find 1940 census with wife Ila (Iva, Lila, Ova) who he married in 1939. Searching from his page, to FamilySearch, nothing even close to his name appears, even after removing info and refining search to census 1940. It seems FS is trying to duplicate Ancestry, losing some of the functionality FS used to have making the two platforms complimentary in different ways.
Just some thoughts from a long time fan of FS. Any feedback on how to achieve what I used to have success with would be wonderful! Thanks for all you do

FYI
Welcome to the "Community.FamilySearch" Forum.
I am just another 'lowly' User/Patron ...
You are not alone ...
MANY; Many; many, of us, CANNOT, find/get the "Results", in/with the NEW version of the "Results" page/screen, of a "Search Records" ('FamilySearch'), like we used to, with the PREVIOUS version of the "Results" page/screen.
In fact, MANY; Many; many, of us, would PREFER that 'FamilySearch' "Revert" BACK to the the PREVIOUS version of the "Results" page/screen, of a "Search Records" ('FamilySearch'); as, there is MUCH (lets say, to put it 'kindly') "Dislike", of the NEW version of the "Results" page/screen.
Here are some post(s), in this Forum, by a Representative of the "Search Team" in 'FamilySearch', that 'Designed'; and, "Developed', the the NEW version of the "Results" page/screen, of a "Search Records" ('FamilySearch') - I hope that you may find, some 'enlightenment,' somewhere is these posts, to give some "Instruction", on HOW to use the NEW "Results" page/screen, for "Search Records".

FamilySearch Employee Responding to Search Page Feedback
As you can 'see' from those posts ...
DESPITE, all the NEGATIVE 'Feedback', with regard to the NEW "Results" page/screen, for "Search Records", from those that matter, the 'lowly' User/Patrons, where the NEW "Results" page/screen, for "Search Records", was 'foisted' upon them; BEFORE, being "Fully" released to ALL User/Patrons - 'FamilySearch' RELEASED the NEW "Results" page/screen, for "Search Records", to ALL Users/Patrons.
As I already suggested ...
You are not alone ...
We are ALL "Struggling"; and, NEED "Help", with the NEW "Results" page/screen, for "Search Records", which is NOT very 'User Friendly'.
MOST Users/Patrons want the NEW "Results" page/screen, for "Search Records" to be "Reverted" BACK to the PREVIOUS "Results" page/screen, for "Search Records".
But ...
That Said ...
SADLY, I doubt that will happen ...
I know that this DOES NOT help/assist; but, I hope that this gives you some perspective.
Good Luck.
Brett

I tried finding this couple in 1940 Census - no luck yet. Notice that Buford's parents had moved from 1930 Census to 1940 Census (same house 1935). This couple was married June 1939 in Des Moines, Iowa - WWII Registration - 16 Oct 1940 in Minneapolis, Hennepin, Minnesota, United States. So there appears to be some movement from place to place - perhaps this is why they are not appearing in 1940 Census? The difficulties finding may not have to do with changes in Search.
Did you find the 1940 Census elsewhere?
I wish you success in the search.
