It would be nice if the Document Information returned when searching records contained a definition for abbreviations.

Example: Originating System VR (vital records? from where?)

    @LDS Search Test

    Its 'Brett'

    Take a look at this "Knowledge Article" in 'FamilySearch':

    What is the document information in Historical Records?

    https://www.familysearch.org/en/help/helpcenter/article/what-is-the-document-information-in-historical-records

    https://www.familysearch.org/en/help/helpcenter/article/what-is-the-document-information-in-historical-records

    Where it indicates, among other things:

    Quote

    ------------------

    EASy

    Extraction Administration System, a method of indexing record collections before the current indexing program.

    ------------------

    ODM

    Ordinance Data Management, a database of ordinance information.

    @genthusiast

    FYI

    I have 'seen' that "VR"; and, if I recall, "Vital Records" - Batch Description

    But ...

    That Said ...

    I also found this:

    VRI

    Vital Records Index, especially those sets produced on CD by FamilySearch by the professional-level extraction process

    Not quite the same; but, similar.

    VR is the same as VRI or Vital Records Index which basically contains all the extracted records from the old extraction program which never made it into the International Genealogical Index (IGI).

    Since I have never seen IGI as originating system, I suspect that IGI and ODM are basically synonymous.

    So it appears that Originating System has nothing to do with where the records came from, but is a notation of which extraction/indexing program was used to create the record set.
