Parish Marriages
I learned only this morning that FamilySearch has now produced a new search form. I gathered that users were having trouble using it. So I came here to see if there were helpful answers. Sadly it seems the problem is widespread. I tried a search that I knew had been there (because there was a really awful transcription error created by FamilySearch.) I looked for a marriage in 1864 searching only on the groom's name, the year, and location (although I'm a bit concerned how that needs to be entered - parish, county, England). WHY do the results default to every census result that he might have occurred in. I can't see where to refine my results ONLY to Marriages. Has anyone worked that out? I was able to filter to the Marriage Registration Index, but there is no filter for Parish Marriages. That seems to have been omitted. FamilySearch was the leader in family history research, and many of us are ever grateful for their foresight. I'm just so glad I'm not facing this as a novice today.

The first thing you need to try is to click on the "More Options" next to the red Search tab. Then you should be able to search specifically for a marriage record. You can enter the person's name, the marriage date and place etc. This is probably about the same as your previous search. Then you will see more filters above the search results. You can use those to filter your results further, if you don't find what you want at first. This blog article should help: Getting the Most from Your Search: Understanding the Search Records Page
