Finding a location that no longer exists? Possibly an estate. Best path
I have a relative, David B. Jackson, my 3rd G-Grandfather born May 30th 1818. I can't get past him.
Steam boat engineer on the Hudson married Henrietta Bourdette granddaughter of the Bourdette that owned Fort Lee, NJ and personally gave the land to Washington.
He supposedly was either born or raised in "Gondolla, NY". A Kansas news article states this 100 yrs after his birth. His son Nelson worked in Kansas.
The article states Gondolla became part of Cornwall, NY. Technically there are three types of "Cornwall, NY" right next to eat other.
The Cornwall, NY proper, historians were baffled by this and guess it's an estate named Gondolla.
How do I check records of this without going to each Cornwall and paying for records that might not exist?

How certain are you about the accuracy of the place "Gondolla" ?
The 1859 map here: https://shop.old-maps.com/new-york/towns/orange-co-ny-1859-town/cornwall-new-york-1859-old-town-map-custom-print-with-homeowner-names-orange-co/ shows land ownership, but I wasn't able to find any names like Gondolla. However a search of the New York Land Records for the surname Gondolla does produce many vaguely similar surnames.
My knowledge of the counties in New York state is poor, so I can't suggest which if any of the results are good candidates,.

Very sorry, I was unaware you replied. Didn't receive an email.
"Gondolla" appears in an article co-written by his son, John Nelson Jackson.
