Naturalization Record, Place of Event
Howdy fum th Hills,
In this record, 1843–1991 [Part E][M3F8-97H], the p[aceof event is not given where shown in the examples, but recorded by the indexer, as shown in the heading to be Springfield Missouri. I agree with that choice. ?
Other times, I've used whateve can be found in other places. in one instrction, the district, and division of state of ,,,were shown. My opinion has become that, if it provides the information, not shown as in the examples, and might be useful, show it. What sa you?

It actually is the same place. The affidavit of witnesses is on the second image and also lists the event place as Springfield, Missouri where the oath was administered. (Chances are like 99.99% that the court location at the top of the petition is going to match where the oath is taken). This is not the Oath of Allegiance, this is the oath that all the statements in the petition are true - written to the Honorable (judge) of the District Court at Springfield, Missouri. On the second image, there is no record number or event place on Oaths of Allegiance and they should be blank. We are instructed in the project instructions not to use information from the Affidavits. Your indexer also erred on the surname for the spouse and the missed the birth year on image 1. But, they did get the event place correct!
- For petitions for naturalization that have a date recorded only in the affidavit of witnesses section (if on the same page), type that date in the date fields. In all other cases, do not include information from affidavits of witnesses.

Hello James,
Thank you for sharing the batch code.
Your question is interesting as it is the image where your question comes from. The document has the event place in the heading and not at the bottom where the example image how to index petition for Naturalization shows.
You would use personal judegement to work on this document. For example if you were reviewing it, you would most likely Accept it as the Indexer has it. True, it is not taken from the correct place on the Image but that is because the person who completed this form failed to complete it correctly. Had the Indexer marked it as <Blank> it would be accepted also.
This is one of those dreaded Judgement Calls that the Indexer made. We as Reviewers can override their 'judgement' or allow ours to accept it. ;)
We noticed that the Project instructions has not said to take that information only from that place, nor said not to take it from another place in the document.
Hope this has answered your question.
