Sometimes a family baptise all their children together on the same day. This group information is lost when the record is indexed as individual records. Anyone who searches the records can find an individual, searching the batch only for only a surname with given parents will show separate records for all the individuals, but there is no capability to show that they were a group. The researcher must pull up the scan of the document to discover that the single event was a multiple baptism and that all the persons are a single family.

Is it feasible to build a mechanism into the indexer to start a group, then index the records in that group, then stop indexing the group and proceed with indivdual records.

The records in the group would have a unique link to each other, which could be shown as a note 'This record is part of a group' whenever the record was viewed. Maybe even use a little icon showing a family group.
