Re: Batch M3HS-K1L --in US City And Business Directories, 1749-1990 [Part C]

Issue with name in Column 5 of 6

Reviewing a batch, (surname is "Molloy") the first name given is "Jos P" - but it had been indexed wrongly as "Josp". I made the correction, expecting the red arrow to pop up in place of the check box. Nothing. The system accepted it as though no error had been made. (So I went ahead and gave it the green check-mark.) It did keep the correction I made.

This concerns me. When a patron is searching on the name "Jos P" - will the system fail to locate the name if it remains as "Josp"? Why is the software not flagging "Jos P" as a correction?

That happens because changing something from josp to Jos P is only seen as changing a space. The program does not see changing upper and lower case, adding spaces, and adding punctuation as errors.

If you had left the record as Josp the name would be located and the researcher would probably be able to edit it on their own.

    Thank you, Melissa!
