Record is in the middle of a batch, should I put in the date?

Ok, so i took a batch to index, and it was just one record. Its a list of names for military enlistment and muster rolls. The entries have a slot for the dates, but on the record there is no date, as its in the middle of a larger batch list, containing multiple images. Should i go back and find the start of the batch and put that date for all of these names, or should i just index <BLANK> because no dates were provided on the single image itself?

If the field help for the Military Year says to look at the previous images to obtain the year, I would at least do that. In the past we always were allowed to look at the 1st page of the monthly roster or muster roll to index that date if no enlistment date was noted for the solider. Perhaps the examples or the field helps will help you answer your question.

You are allowed to go to reference images to get a date for these Muster Rolls. Only previous images.

You can view multiple images while you index. The additional images are reference images and can help you with your work. This feature is essential if you are indexing a record that continues from one image to the next, or if you are struggling to read difficult handwriting.

    Steps

    1. Click the 4th icon in the small, vertical toolbar to the left of the screen.
      • You can also click Data Entry in the top menu, and then click Show Reference Images.
    2. The reference image opens on the right side of the image area. Click the thumbnail of the image you want to view.
    3. Adjust the size and contrast of the reference image to find the information you need.
    4. You can continue indexing while viewing both images at the same time."

If you can give us the share batch number and we can look with you. The share batch number is in the brackets at the right end of the batch name.

Thank you for helping Index. That helps so many find records about their ancestors.
