Problem with Editing Responses
I would say almost 50% of the time in the last few weeks when I edit an existing response that I've made to a community member in the German Genealogy Research community then click to update the edited response, the entire response is lost and I have to retype the entire response a second time as if it were a new response. Could somebody please look into this? It's very frustrating to provide a lengthy answer or translation and then have it disappear simply because you are making an edit to the original response.
Thank you.

I am not connected with Family Search. This is a known issue with the Community generally, not just with your specific group, and has been for months. To date there has been no indication that FamilySearch even acknowledges the problem.
You need to save reply before you edit, or draft your reply somewhere else then copy and paste. If you look at your Drafts box, there possibly might be something there.

Thank you very much, @MaureenE123 for your response. I will try to remember to copy/save my reply before editing. It is a very problematic issue which should be addressed as quickly as possible.

I tried to add a comma to my response to a thread in Q and A yesterday. Instead of saving my simple edit, the system made my entire comment disappear. The message was something along the lines of "your post will show after it has been approved", but there's nothing in my drafts, notifications, or anywhere else (that I can find).
So yeah, there is definitely a problem with editing responses, but it is not restricted just to Groups.

Yes, @Julia Szent-Györgyi, that has also happend to me with simple edits with the same "your post will show after approval" message and my experience is that the post is never approved and therefore never shows. Very frustrating.

This sounds like my problem with "zombie" comments that I reported previously, except my comments did eventually show up days later.
I have also had a message disappear while I was typing it.

Just had the same thing happen to me again earlier today. The difference was that I'd got the copy, so I pasted the edited copy, then saved it and tried editting again as a test, and bingo, gone !. So I pasted a new one from the editted copy and it saved OK.
I caught a flicker of a message that said something like discussion number did not match ??
When I reloaded the page half an hour later, there were all three versions ! So I then deleted the first two. Akward, but better than a total loss.

Hello Everyone,
@Robert Seal_1, @MaureenE123, @Julia Szent-Györgyi, @dontiknowyou, & @LDS Search Test.
I've been investigating the problems noted in this thread and believe I've identified the root cause(s). I've make some changes on the back end to prevent these issues from occurring again. If you run into any similar issues in the future, please at mention me
Best,
Mark

Hello @Mark McLemore
Also, how about investigating why on Septemeber 20th, 2021, sometime between 9:00 am and later that same afternoon my community account was reset to zero af if I were a new member of the community.
Monday morning (9/21/2021): 709 points; 66 comments; 5,000+ Discussions, 4-Star level.
Monday afternoon (9/21/2021): 1 point, 5 comments; no Disccussions, 1-Star level.
The worst part of this is the loss of all the responses I have provided to other community members. This not only affects me but all the people who I have responded to over the years. Apparently if I answered their questions my answers to their questions have disappeared in their queues as well.
After contacting FamilySearch at least three times by phone and live chat as well as sending the following message to Caleb L, the problem hasn't been resolved.
Copy of message sent to Caleb L a few days after this happened on September 21, 2021 (to which no response to date has been received):
Hello @Caleb L,
@CDBurk suggested I contact you regarding a problem I have been having since Monday, 20 Sep 2021, with my account on Family Search Community. Here is a copy of the message I posted:
I have been a member of FamilySearch for 10 years and the FS Community for 3+ years and work primarily in the German Genealogy Research Community answering questions and providing translations of records.
Sometime between 9:00 am, Monday morning, 20 Sep 2021, and approximately 4:00 pm, Monday afternoon, 20 Sep 2021, my account in FS Community was reset as if I were a new beginning member of the Community. All of the answers I have provided over the past three years were removed and my statistics were reset to zero. Despite two phone calls and one online chat with Family Search over the past several days, there has been no explanation of the problem and no resolution of the problem.
On Monday morning, 20 Sep 2021, my statistics: 4 Star Level; Points: 709; My Discussions: 66; Comments: 5,000+.
On Monday afternoon, 20 Sept 2021, my statistics: 1 Star Level, Points: 1, My Discussions: blank; Comments: 5.
The worst part of this is the loss of all the responses I have provided. This not only affects me but all the people who I have responded to over the years. Apparently if I answered their questions my answers to their questions have disappeared in their queues as well.
This is very strange. Can somebody please help me?
Thank you.
FYI: I am a non-Church volunteer so this problem shouldn't be related to a Church account vs. a FamilySearch account.
Any assistance you can provide would be greatly appreciated Caleb.
End of copy of message.
Mark McLemore: Any thing you can do to resolve this issue would be appreciated.
Thank you, Robert Seal_1

Hello @Robert Seal_1,
I'm so sorry this happened and that you haven't received a reply or resolution to this problem. I'll escalate this to our dev team immediately to determine what happened & why, and see what can be done to restore your statistics (as well as identify the root cause so we can prevent this from happening again).
Best,
Mark

Thank you, @Mark McLemore. I very much appreciate your assistance.
FYI: When my account was reset to zero, I did NOT lose my number of "likes" nor my number of badges.
Also, since this happened, I have begun earning points, and recording "Discussions" and "Comments" again in my community account. I would expect when this is resolved that the lost data would be added to what I have earned since this mishap in order to reflect correct totals in point, discussions, and comments.
Sincerely, Robert Seal_1

Thank you @Mark McLemore. My account has been somewhat restored BUT as I predicted, anything I earned after 20 Sep 2021 has not been added to the restored totals.
For example, I had 709 point on 20 Sep 2021. Yesterday (16 Oct 2021) I had 203 points before my account was restored: 709 + 203 = 912 point. This morning with the restored account I have 715 points.
Another example: I had earned the 5,000 comments badge prior to 20 Sep 2021. And since 20 Sep 2021 I had earned close to another 300 coments. So total comments should be around 5,300, but today my comments are back to 4,700.
This is frustrating.
However, I again want to thank you personally for taking an interest in this particular problem and at least getting it resolved to some extent.
With kind regards to you for your assistance.
Sincerely, Robert Seal_1

I can confirm Robert Seal_1's point, comment, and discussion counts were reset at 0 in September. I did not see his counts prior.

Like so many others, I lost a comment yesterday or the day before while I was doing a simple one character edit. Gone all gone, nothing in drafts either. I did notice a flash “Accepted Answer” at the same time the comment disappeared. Has anyone else experience that or maybe a flash “Liked”? Just wondering if there could be a couple of services conflicting with one another?

You might be onto something there. I'd caught a flash of something like "discussion number did not match".
Supposing you begin a comment, you would expect that an index number is assigned. Next you begin an edit, now when an answer is "Accepted" it is promoted in position in the table. This might cause the index number of the discussion that is being edited to fail to match the index number of the comment in the re-positioned table. Maybe the record locking mechanism doesn't work as well as it should for edits.
Note: I've just edited this three times without a problem.

Hello @Robert Seal_1,
You are quite welcome. I apologize for this even being an issue - it should never have happened, but glad we could mostly restore your stats. I'm checking into the comment count & points to see what else can be done to restore them all. I'll follow back up and let you know what I find out.
Thank you for all the time and effort you've put into making the community a better place - 5300 comments is no small effort. Not only will the folks you responded to benefit from your comments, those yet to use the community will as well.
Best,
Mark
