indexing data order
Often when doing a batch of many items, it would be more convenient if the data lines were in a different order.
For example the one I just completed had: Surname, Prefix, Given Names, Event Year, Age, Sex.
In this particular case, prefix, age, and sex were always blank and the Event year was always the same year. So for ease of entering data the following order would have been better:
Surname, Given Name, Event Year, Prefix, Age, Sex. With this order, "ctl d" could have been used to quickly complete the last four items after entering them one time.
It is easy to change the order of the line items, so the question is: is it okay to change the order of the line items in the template?

Hi John,
In Web Indexing, you can reorder the fields in the data entry area when you use Form Entry mode. When you reorder fields, it can speed up indexing because you can make the order of the fields match the order of information in the document.
For other batches in the same project, the fields stay in the order you set until you change them again.
Note: You can reorder fields only in Form Entry.
Steps
- To reorder fields in Form Entry Mode:
- Hover the mouse pointer over the name of the field you want to move. The cursor changes to a cross with arrow tips. Note: This action may not be possible from an iPad or some other mobile device.
- Click and drag the field to the new position.
- Release the mouse button.
- To reset fields to their original position:
- In the blue bar at the top of the entry form, click [Blue square with 3 vertical white dots].
- Click Reset Field Order.
Hope this answered your question.

I think they leave any reordering of index fields up to the Indexer. They could send the Project out in a particular order - but I guess they didn't on your Project. You do have the option in the 3 dot menu to hide fields. You also have the option to populate <BLANK> to the same subsequent Fields menu item (Alt + Shift + D keyboard shortcut on PC)
You may find it helpful to hide the fields that need entry first and then Enter <BLANK> on the remaining <BLANK> fields - and then toggle to hide the <BLANK> fields or just do the remaining Entries.
