Account Not Authorized?
Hello,
I was googling and found a Family Search page for one of my ancestors (https://ancestors.familysearch.org/en/96SK-5B2/etta-maude-milbury-1883-1958), but when I clicked on her husband's name, I got the following message:
Account Not Authorized
FamilySearch Family Tree is accessible in Japan only to authorized FamilySearch users. Please contact FamilySearch Support at https://community.familysearch.org/ and provide your username to activate your account.
FamilySearch Home | FamilySearch Support
As, you can see, I am signed in to FamilySearch, as I am leaving a message here, so I don't understand what I'm missing. I clicked on the link provided, but it just brought me to this page (https://community.familysearch.org/en).
Thanks for any help.
Sincerely,
Ian

We're sorry, in Japan, Family Tree is not available to guests with public accounts.

I am just another 'lowly' User/Patron ...
You are not alone ...
Been there ... done that ...
FYI
There are Countries/Unions, through the World; where, the use of 'FamilySearch' (and, the various PARTS of 'FamilySearch'), is somewhat "Restricted".
There are various "Levels", of "Restrictions"; as, to what PARTS of 'FamilySearch', can be used, in the various Countries/Unions throughout the World.
[ We found this out, while we were travelling, around the World ... ]
Now ...
That Said ...
As, has already been proffered, in relation to Japan ...
Here is a "Knowledge Article" in 'FamilySearch':
I am in Japan and received an "account not authorized" error
Where is states:
Quote:
------------------
In Japan, only authorized users can access FamilySearch Family Tree. To become an authorized user, please contact FamilySearch Support.
Indexing is independent from Family Tree. Indexing does not require authorization. Users can go to FamilySearch and begin indexing immediately.
-----------------
IF, you are in Japan, for any significant length of time; THEN, it would certainly be worthwhile contacting 'FamilySearch', to 'see' if you CAN be made (become), an "Authorized" User/Patron, while in Japan.
[ Whereas, for us, such was not the case, due to our short time, in Japan, while travelling ... ]
I know that this may not help; but, I hope that this gives you some insight; and, a possible avenue to pursue.

Thanks. I tried again and at least found an email address to send a message to. I hope someone can activate my account. (I thought it was already activated though, as I can type here.)

Your 'FamilySearch' Account is most likely ALREADY activate.
[ Especially, if you have been a "Registered" 'FamilySearch' User/Patron for any length of time ... ]
Whereas, regardless of that, to use "Family Tree", of 'FamilySearch', while in Japan, a SPECAIL "Authorisation" is required.

Hi @IanWalker90
Because FamilySearch Support works through geographical support teams, please go to the Contact Us page to work with the Asia-Pacific Support team regarding your desire to receive authorization to access the Family Tree program while you are in Japan. The Contact Us page does show that live chat is available, and a phone number is also available so that those in Japan can contact the proper support team to resolve their concerns.
We wish you every success once you make contact with the proper support team.
