I have put incorrect information, such as listing a child to the wrong mother. How do I edit or correct it once it has been entered?

    @CarolManuel1

    We hope we understand your situation. It sounds like you have added a child to the wrong family in Family Tree? Here is an article from the Help Center addressing that problem.

    https://www.familysearch.org/help/helpcenter/article/how-do-i-correct-parent-child-relationships-in-family-tree
    • The article says: "If the child does not belong in the family, remove or replace the child's link to the parents. Use the instructions in this article to do so."

    If we misunderstood, please clarify and we will be happy to offer more assistance.

    Best Wishes!

    I see incorrect information very frequently that other people have added. Can I correct the spellings, death dates, etc., if I see them? My attempts to edit fail. There doesn't seem to be an edit button in many places where I would like to correct an error left by someone else.

    Yes you can edit the spellings and death dates. We have included a link to the Article about changing the vital information such as the name spelling and dates. We have also included a screenshot. In the screenshot just above the name is a blue edit link. If you click on the blue edit link, you can change the name if desired or to change the birth date or place you can click on the blue edit link a

    Hello @CarolManuel1

    If you are signed into FamilySearch you should be able to edit any incorrect information that you find. The website is an open-edit environment, meaning that anyone can make changes. We strongly encourage the use of good reason statements and documentation to support all changes.

    @ToblerCJ provided the article about correcting parent-child relationships. Here is another article about how to edit vital information:
