What has gone wrong here and how long do you think it will take to rectify it?

I was very excited to see that many new Scottish sources had been made digital. It was therefore a bit of a disappointment to find that many of the sources had been mis-catalogued. eg the below is meant to be Edinburgh / West Lothian. The book is actually a reference to Wales.

Then: “Dunbartonshire. Cemetery Records 1855” is actually a “History of Mansfield”

Approximately every second source I looked was wrongly catalogued.

So there are too many problems for me to identify. My search was on new Scottish images.

All the best

Iain

    @Iainm

    The problem with these links is that they take you to the beginning of the film, which (as in this case) often covers multiple records.

    You need to go to image 461 of 680 to find records relating to Dumbarton, from the second link you provide.

    From the first, I found reference to Dunfermline on image 250 of 268, so you might need to search other pages of the film, as they clearly do not all relate directly to Wales.

    With regards to the Catalog, it is currently locked, whilst a major overhaul is taking place. So, if there are incorrect links they cannot be corrected, at present. Whether issues like yours will be addressed when the new catalog is introduced remains unknown, but I would find it doubtful.

    Thanks for your explanation Paul.

    I may have missed this explanation somewhere in the notes accompanying the references. However, I generally try to find out for myself what the problem might be. I was unsuccessful in this.

    Perhaps it would be useful to highlight this fact on the introduction / notes. If, as you say, multiple records are common, other people will be having the same issue as me.

    Regards

    Iain
