are you updating your system?

I have not been able to add a record to a profile all week. The screen that normally attaches does not complete the update. It appears to be stuck in a loop.

    Hi @FredHall4

We are not certain why you are experiencing a problem with attaching records. We understand you are trying to attach sources to the records of your ancestors who are in Family Tree. Could you confirm that is what you are trying to do? Also, are you working with Record Hints that popup in Family Tree, or are you just searching in the Historical Records trying to attach them using the button on the record view? Finally, to help us with our investigation on your behalf, can you provide the URL for a record that you have not been able to attach?

When you attach records, it is done through the Source Linker which allows you to verify who it will be linked to. The following knowledge articles just provides a reminder of the steps required to use the Source Linker successfully.

If you consistently get an error when trying to attach a source, these are possible reasons that you get an error message when you try to attach a source:

    • Your browser is out of date.
    • You are using an unsupported browser.
    • You need to clear temporary files, cookies, and cache.
    • McAfee LiveSafe can prevent sources from being attached in Family Tree.

Try these actions to solve the problem:

    • Delete the temporary files, cache, and cookies.
    • Update your browser version, or switch to a different browser to see if the issue persists.
    • Restart your browser.
    • Attach the source again.
    • If you have McAfee LiveSafe installed, please contact the vendor for assistance removing it. (There is no option in this program to disable SSL scanning, which is causing the problem.)

We were able to use the Source LInker successfully in the current version of the Chrome browser on a Windows 10 operating system during our investigation. If your problem continues, please provide us with specific details so that we can try to troubleshoot your concern. You may also want to try to contact us directly at 1-866-406-1830 after Conference Weekend.

trying to attach through source linker. I have completed this task many times. I am working with records from familysearch trying to attach to family tree. I use duck duck go but also went to google and get the same results. I do not use McAfee. I will try deleting cookies and cach.

Thanks so much for the URL, @FredHall4 .

When working from a record to attach a source, if you have not viewed a person's details page recently, the Source Linker doesn't always know whom you wish to attach the record to. In this instance, if you have the PID for Marion Dean from your pedigree, you can enter it in the popout box that generates on the Family Tree side of the Sourcelinker.

If there is no record yet in Family Tree for this person, you may want to create one so that you have a PID to attach the source to.

The SourceLinker will often let you add additional family members who are not already in Family Tree if they are included in Historical Records of someone else in the family, however, if the Primary person or only person in a Historical Record is not already in Family Tree, you must create a record for them from the details page of a family member, or as an Unconnected Person if you don't know how they fit into your pedigree.

I always go to the family tree member to establish that person in my history view. I have also tried other searches to see if it is the person I am trying to attach to and have the same issue. If familysearch is not doing work or updating this function then something in my system is not allowing me to complete. This was fine up until just 3 or 4 days ago. I have not changed anything in my operating system, browser or security.
