Indexing on a Mobile Device
I believe that so many more people would participate in Indexing if there was an Indexing app that was compatible with cell phones and tablets. That way, people could use some of their spare time to hop on their phone and do some indexing. Another benefit is that it would give the younger generation something to do with their screen time other than scrolling through social media. The key would be to make the app easy to use and super fast to start an indexing session on.

Indexing is currently compatible with many tablets. But the screen size on phones is too small.
Here's a fun app from BYU which works on a phone:

A VERY recent update has allowed indexing to be done on smart phones. Go to your browser on your phone and go into FamilySearch then to indexing as usual. Warning. The images and text are very small so it may be impossible to index many projects. The ones most likely to be workable might be lists of people instead of documents.

You can participate in web indexing from a desktop computer, laptop, or tablet. You should be able to use Safari or Firefox as your web browser, though we recommend Google Chrome.
We support tablets with a minimum of a 1024x600 resolution. You must have an internet connection. Tablets needs updated operating systems:
- Android OS 4.x+ (system browser only—including Kindle Fire HD or later)
- iPad 2+ with iOS 6 or 7+ (iOS Safari browser only)
Other browsers and systems might work, but we might not be able to help you identify or troubleshoot any problems you encounter.
At this time, we are unable to support indexing from smart phones due to their small screen size.

Still, I think that if there was an easy-to-use indexing mobile app (compatible with a cell phone), a lot more people would start indexing.
