Bug in generating "discovery activity"
I received a “discovery activity" related to a purported ancestor who was in fact not my ancestor. It confused me and it took some time to recognize the real problem. The "discovery activity" message identified Betsey (no surname) LB1V-Z5Y as my ancestor based on a child, Mariette, being listed under "children." Mariette's relationship to Betsey is correctly identified in the Family Tree as step-child. Mariette's mother was Clarinda Wheeler 27Y2-KZK, the first spouse of Eli Bartlett Adams LH2K-TDD, my ancestor.
This is not a contributor generated error in the Family Tree, but rather a computer programming error. The step-child relationship was not noted when the computer generated the “discovery activity,” even though it was correctly identified in the Family Tree. The Family Tree record is correct, so the computer program that generates the “discovery activity” must not be programmed to recognize a step-child relationship. I think Family Search does an incredible job with tremendously large and complicated computer records with very few bugs. I hope this one can be eliminated.
