How do we request that an image be rescanned. This one is completely unreadable as it is completely out of focus.

    Hello Patty,

This image should not be marked NED. The indexer should try the adjustment tools provided with the image in the vertical menu on the left upper corner on the image field.  If that does not make it clear enough to index any of it, then the indexer should return the batch. I can, with the adjustments tool, make out names, from the middle down, and on the upper right side of the image there is the city name and year. The ones that I would not be able to completely read I would use the signs of ? for one unreadable letter or * for more than one unreadable letter provided in the knowledge article "How to I index unreadable information?"

In the Project instructions is also further instruction in the KA for using the Unreadable options, whether it be a field, entire record, or entire image. This image is not entirely unreadable.

At the moment FamilySearch does not rescan an image again nor is there a way to request it to be done.

    Hope this helps.

I would mark it No, No Extractable Data. You can probably see on the reference images that it was photographed twice and will be indexed by someone else. There is a duplicate of the page in the filmstrip, so chances are pretty good that the next reference image is also page 139 and 140 of the book. You could also send it back to another indexer who might be able to struggle with part of the image. But, if you mark it NED, it will be reviewed by a familysearch team who will see that it was re-photographed on the next image. JMO...but, I wouldn't waste time struggling with an image that could be marked NED by a reviewer. If there isn't a reference image that is available for indexing, then I would attempt to index this image.
