The record number

For the record number, should I use the number on top (red) or certificate number if given?

I first use the certificate number if given, if not I use the number on top (red) if one. Since each card is different I want to make sure I am being consistent and putting in the correct information.

Also, each batch has two cards, different names, but there is two different records for each card. ( once record number is entered, add name, DOB etc. then it goes to anther page asking some info, (I leave blank) then go to next image do the same thing then submit.)

just checking to make sure this is how its done, AGAIN want to make sure I am doing it correct. I want to make sure I am consistent and information will be helpful to any family looking up information.

I had similar questions when beginning indexing recently - and from what I have learned - you will continue to get a variation of the same answer: The best place to learn how and what to index in the Project you are working on is the Project Instructions. These instructions include examples which may help you identify record number/certificate number location in the image. You can access the Project Instructions through the far right icon (form with an i circled or use Ctrl + Shift + P keyboard shortcut).

Each Entry field also has a Field help (purple circle with ?) - If you have questions about what to enter on any field.

It sounds like you are doing great - keep it up!

Thank you, what are you doing with the year/ example 12-17-12 ? would it be 1812, 1912, 2012 since we do not know exactly how far back these documents are from.

The answer would depend on the context of the surrounding records. Without knowing the Batch (you can share the Batch through Help> Share Batch) I would not be able to give any more accurate answer. Even sharing the Batch may not help answer it because some Projects might not include 'Reference Images' of surrounding Batches - to help you gain that context.

Feel free to Share Batch here and perhaps someone with more knowledge of the Project can answer that more definitively.
