Issue regarding parents of James Case LHPJ-LMH
I've always believed that James parents were Josiah Case and Esther (or Hester) Higley. This was based on a handwritten notebook given to my father (Carson) by Grace (Irwin) Linehan in the 1950s. She headed her information with "Noting from my book of Case genealogy". In the notebook she traces the decendants of William Case (2nd son of John Case) and Elizabeth Holcomb as follows: James 3rd child of 7 b 3-12-1693 m Esther Fithin in 1715. Their 2nd child (of 7) was Josiah b April 1718 and m Esther Higley abt 1740. Their 2nd child was James b April 2, 1744. His 1st wife was Phebe Tuller (d 1776) and 2nd wife Lydia Case daughter of Noah Case and Myriam Holcomb. Their 6th child was Wareham, born 1787 in Otis MA. James died 1822 in Otis.
When Grace says "my book" I assume she means a book she owns rather than a book she wrote.
I would appreciate any clarification you can give me.

My comments here are preliminary and should not be taken as any sort of final pronouncement upon your question - they merely indicate further genealogical research needing to occur.
From reviewing James Case LHPJ-LMH much of the information in the Tree appears just as the note - in your possession - from Grace Irwin Linehan - describes. This does bring up the question of whether her note also lists James' parents correctly and that the current Tree could be in error.
Without Grace Linehan's "my book of Case genealogy" it would be difficult to say whether it:
- was a book in her possession written by another author OR
- was a book she compiled/wrote
Further research would be needed to establish either - specifically locating 'my book of Case genealogy'.
A search of FamilySearch> Search> Books turns up no results for 'Grace Irwin Linehan'
A search for 'Grace Linehan' has 4 results but probably don't apply to this question.
...
General suggestions:
Since the question of James' parentage is the primary issue at this point - it would be wise to review the persons currently attached in the Tree and see if the documents/linkages appear convincing or whether they could possibly be documenting a different James. There appears to be a common familial relation to the Holcomb family. Caution will be needed to determine if James' parents are correctly attached to this James or whether there are two James needing to be documented.
I do see the Tree as you describe - from Grace Irwin Linehan's notes:
with a 'terminating' James Case LT6C-SLJ
It will need to be determined whether James Case LT6C-SLJ OR James Case LHPJ-LMH married 1) Phebe Tuller and 2) Lydia Case OR whether they were two separate people with two separate marriages, etc... I would say your documentation from the notes of Grace Irwin Lenihan are compelling enough to collaborate with the researchers of James Case LHPJ-LMH - they should be willing to recognize additional research needs to occur. IF this problem has resulted from merges in the Tree - there SHOULD be explanation for why the merges have resulted as they currently are. Typically in my experience there is not usually a good 'reason for merge' attached detailing the research done. But this could be different - they just need to explain their reasoning...
I made Collaboration notes and Discussions on both James Case LHPJ-LMH and on James Case LT6C-SLJ. Hopefully this will catch the attention of any interested parties and result in collaborative efforts to resolve the conflicting research/Trees.
I know this does little to resolve your question - but I hope it clarifies the question.

Thanx for your attention. Josiah & Esther have been in my family for so long I shall miss them should they prove to be interlopers (but I will forgive them). If Timothy et. al. prove true, maybe I should hold a party for them.
