What is FamilySearch going to do with Hundreds of Thousands of broken links, State of WV
I realize that the vast majority of issues in these post are important to the individual who has posted, and rightly so. This post, however, has sweeping implications for a multitude of FamilySearch uses, as well as other web portals and individuals world wide.
The State of WV is revamping it's computer system. We're not yet sure what the final outcome will be, but it looks as if they have modified their urls. This means that, at least temporarily, all old links to the West Virginia State Vital Records - Births, Deaths, and Marriages - are broken. It is possible that they may not be restored.
My questions for the FamilySearch techical staff:
- Are you aware of the issue
- Has the State of WV communicated with you?
- If so, what are their plans?
- If not, what are yours?
One presumes you might have some sort of repair-bot that you can use. If this is the route that FamilySearch takes, could you please let us know what you're doing to fix the issue, and, if the fix isn't proprietary, share it with the rest of us, or at least share with us your best advice for fixing our private files.
