How can a date be corrected

The date of death for my great grandfather Albert Conklin is not correct. My mother was born in 1928 and he was still alive then. The family tree i am working on has him dying at age 30. Also has him buried in Poughkeepsie but he is buried in Peekskill.

Not ensuring that an individual found in Family Tree is actually your relative can cause serious problems, so you must be certain that the Albert Conklin with the "wrong" burial details is the same person as your great-grandfather. If, at present, you do not have any further evidence that, say, all other details match and this burial detail is just an isolated error, you should leave things as they stand, for now.

One of the more difficult aspects in working with the Family Tree program is indeed in determining whether another person of very similar identity to your relative is the same individual, or whether he might be a cousin, or maybe of no close relationship at all.

It is always best to be completely sure of your facts before making changes to existing inputs. It would be very upsetting to the relatives of another Albert Cronklin if you changed these burial details, especially if you were not 100% sure whether this is the correct action. I would suggest trying to contact the person who added the burial details, to confirm their reason for these inputs. (There is a link to send an internal message.) Otherwise, add a note (for now) - against the burial (click on "Edit") and in the Collaboration section - to note your feelings about Albert's general identity, but particularly commenting on your different ideas concerning the facts about his burial.

    Hi Maureen

On an individuals Person page (click on their name and choose PERSON from the card that pops up. Go to the VITALS section. On the Death section, you will see an Edit in blue. Clicking there will allow you to modify any of the information that is there or add it if there is none.

The instructions are in the knowledge article attached below

But how do I know this is not a different Albert Conklin which would make all those names going back in time linked to him wrong? I believed what was there was correct until I realized the date and place of burial both wrong.

If the dates and places are wrong because it's a different person with the same name, then you should edit the relationship(s), not the data. You do this with the little pencil-stub-in-a-box icon to the right of the names in the Family Members section of a person's Details page.
