In order to add a living spouse, you will need to create the record. Follow the steps below:

    1. While signed in to FamilySearch.org, click Family Tree.
    2. Navigate to the Person page of an immediate family member of the living individual.
    3. If you do not see Vitals near the top of the page, click Details.
    4. Scroll to the Family Members section.
    5. Click the appropriate link (Add Spouse, Add Child, or Add Parent).
    6. Enter information about the individual. Indicate that he or she is living.
    7. Click Next.
    8. Click Create Person.

We are enclosing the article link about adding living individuals, in case it may be helpful. Click the link below to read the entire article:

You have to add him as a duplicate. You cannot add his personal record with the ID that he sees when he signs into Family Tree.

This is due to current privacy restrictions for living people.

Is there any chance of that changing? Maybe having a system where the person approves being added as a spouse or whichever relationship?

Ive had a few family members pass away recently, and also just got married, and its just been a hassle to try and make sure everyones version of the passed individual gets merged, and that all the merging data is accurate (as some people entered things a bit different from eachother). So, from that, I'd really rather be able to just add my spouse, and not have to make sure his actual ID gets merged at passing (plus itd help in coordinating how we organize both of our memories and not have him put some events on and me make duplicates and such of that sort).

I do understand the need for privacy with how available FamilySearch is to everyone, but could we maybe make it have a similar access level as when using the helper number? Able to see and given permission, but not everyone can see them or the connection or something like that?

Just throwing out thoughts of how it could work while still respecting peoples privacy. :)
