How to restore a deleted person that has been replaced incorrectly
I have a brother Joseph Jeffries Jr. (L7JM-4HV) of my 3rd great grandfather and son to Joseph Jeffries Sr that was deleted and replaced with another person Joseph Jeffers II (LBHZ-HsV). Most of the sources still related to the original person Jeffries. The original brother had two marriages, and the new person has a marriage that overlaps the other two. I looks like family search may have created the new person and attached him to the father of a different last name, and then at some point Joseph Jeffries was deleted and others have added to the Jeffers information and things have become very confused. I cannot find the entry where the brother was actually deleted and reference to Joseph Jeffries and his ID# can only be found by review the two marriages. Abiah Kimball K2XB-ZH9 and and Elizabeth Douglas 9S7S-LP9. I am not finding any way to restore Joseph Jeffries or unmerge the two. The two need to be separated with their correct spouses and the appropriate sources attached. The temple work was done for Joseph Jeffries and I do not know what was done for Jeffers, but that is probably all mixed too now. How can this be sorted out?

FamilySearch does not merge or delete people. Our guests, such as yourself, are the ones to make changes. Fortunately when people are merged, they are still in the system. You can undo a merge that has taken place. The remaining person's ID number for Joseph Jeffers II is LBHZ-HSV. You can see all the changes made to a person by clicking on Latest Changes on the right side of a person's page. If you do not see any changes, click on the arrow on the left side of the words Latest Changes. To see all the changes for this person, click on Show All. Here is an article about Latest Changes
Here is an article about how to unmerge combined people and restore the deleted person. I recommend that you read the whole article but I did add the steps below.
Unmerge
- While signed in to FamilySearch.org, navigate to the Person page of the individual who was not deleted after the merging process.
- On the right-hand side of the Person page, click Show All in the Latest Changes box.
- In the change history, find the merge.
- If an Unmerge option appears on the far right side, follow these steps:
- Click Unmerge.
- In the box that opens, enter a reason to explain why the merge was not correct.
- Click Unmerge.
- If an Unmerge option is not available, it means that the surviving record was changed after the merge. To bring back the deleted record, follow these steps:
- In the change history, click the name of the deleted person.
- In the box that appears, click Person.
- In the Person Deleted box, review the reason for the deletion, and then click Restore Person.
- Enter a reason that explains why the person should be restored.
- Click Restore.
This is going to take some serious effort to straighten out. Good luck.

Welcome to the "Community.FamilySearch" Forum.
I am just another 'lowly' User/Patron ...
Further to what has already been proffered ...
The individual/person Joseph JEFFRIES, Jr. ( L7JM-4HV ), was "Merged"/"Combined", by ANOTHER User/Patron with Joseph JEFFERS II ( LBHZ-HSV ); so that, Joseph JEFFERS II ( LBHZ-HSV ) became the "Surviving" individual/person; and, Joseph JEFFRIES, Jr. ( L7JM-4HV ) became a "Deleted" (or, better still, "Archived" individual/person.
Such "Merge"/"Combine" was NOT done by 'FamilySearch'.
Such "Merge"/"Combine" was done specifically by the User/Patron, 'Stacinator'.
You can 'see' that "Merge"/"Combine" in the "ChangeLog" of both individuals/persons.
Joseph JEFFRIES, Jr. ( L7JM-4HV )
https://www.familysearch.org/tree/person/changelog/L7JM-4HV
Joseph JEFFERS II ( LBHZ-HSV )
https://www.familysearch.org/tree/person/changelog/L7JM-4HV
And ...
FYI
There is the ability to "Restore" the "Deleted" (or, better still, "Archived") individual/person
Joseph JEFFRIES, Jr. ( L7JM-4HV )
https://www.familysearch.org/tree/person/details/L7JM-4HV
Pictorially ...
Plus ...
After you "Restore", Joseph JEFFRIES, Jr. ( L7JM-4HV ), will will need to do work, sorting out, BOTH the individuals/persons, Joseph JEFFRIES, Jr. ( L7JM-4HV ); and, Joseph JEFFERS II ( LBHZ-HSV ); especially, if they are two (x2) separate individuals/persons.
I hope this helps, somewhat.
