question index 2.png

How do I index these people? Ellen seems to be married to Michael who has died, right? Do I add him as her spouse? This is probably the main question I have.

Then there is a Miss Ellen V who is different, but lives at the same address.

Then there is a Michael Phelan who lives at a different address and a William at another address.

Yes, you add Michael as the spouse of Ellen.

Miss Ellen V Phelan, Michael Phelan, and Wm Phelan each get their own entry. You would not expand William.

We are indexing unique names, we don't care where they were living. There is no field for residence.

May I ask why I wouldn't write William? Could it be another name?

If you look at the Field Help (purple question mark) for Given Names or Spouse’s Given Names you will see this below, So we don’t expand abbreviations.

“Type the given names as they were written. Do not correct misspellings or expand abbreviations.”
