Indexing Puerto Rico documents
If I was born in Garrochales, Arecibo, Puerto Rico that is what my birth certificate would say.
If I lived in Garrochales, Arecibo, Puerto Rico that is what the US Census document would state.
But when I go to a website that doesn't handle this situation correctly... It turns out that I was born in Arecibo, Puerto Rico and guess what? Everyone in every barrio of Arecibo also only lived or was born in Arecibo, Puerto Rico, U.S. (The U.S. part of this is wrong, because U.S. territories are not in the U.S.) If you look at a map of the U.S. you will note that fact. The thing is the latter is not correct and that is exactly what familysearch.org has done, and by using the latter Arecibo, Puerto Rico, U.S. we are doing a disservice because the system can no longer state the barrio i.e. Garrochales or other barrios (of which there are 902 in PR)... where the people lived or were born. Birth Certificates, Death Certificates, Census docs, and Marriage Certificates state 1) the barrio 2) the municipio 3) Puerto Rico.

@Woman in the US I understand your concern and I have a suggestion. FamilySearch would love for your help in correcting wrong Standardized place names! You can do so here:
