UK, England, Lancashire—Nonconformist Church Records, 1647–1996 [Part B] - record over two images
Hi
I am reviewing this batch [MSKP-Y86]
This batch is the right side of a double page baptism record - the indexer has completed all fields by referring to the adjacent image (-1 image on Reference Images)
Is the correct indexing for this batch to have:
- Baptism year = 1834 (from the year at the top of the image)
- County = Lancaster (also from the top)
- Mother's surname = name written in column headed "Mothers maiden name"
- Day, Month and Year of Birth = values in column headed "When born"
Is there some way that the information in these 2 images is merged before the index is published?
Thanks for the clarification

This batch should have been marked No, No Extractable Data (NED). The person who indexed the first half of the register would have indexed this information. We don't look backwards to index. This is in the General Indexing Guidelines under
What to Do When A Record Spans Two Images:
- If the first record on an image begins on a previous image, don't index it. The record will be indexed as part of the previous batch. Start indexing at the first complete record.
- If the last record on an image continues to the next image, index the entire record, including what continues to the next image.
They do look at all NED images to be sure that the information has been correctly indexed.

Ontymay - we do look ahead to the right side of the ledger page when we have a batch which is just the left side. We aren't indexing the reference image - we are using it to help index the one page in the batch.
We want our indexes to bring the researcher to the beginning of any record. They can then scroll back and forth on the film to see other relevant images.
Asking questions is great! Please don't hesitate to post here again. There are many experienced indexers ready to help you. Just like people helped us when we were new.

As the Reviewer, in Step 1: Images, you should change Yes to No, No Extractable Data. Then submit the batch.

Thanks both @Melissa S Himes and @Dellory Matthews
Thanks for the explanation Melissa - I had interpreted that instruction to apply when there were multiple images in the same batch. In this instance there is just one image in the batch and it is of one page of the register so I wasn't sure.
So next question is for this batch [MSKP-YW5] which is the left side of a double page baptism record - the indexer has completed all fields by referring to the adjacent image (+1 image on Reference Images).
So that would seem OK based on the general indexing guideline above BUT I recall seeing somewhere that the reference images were not to be indexed in the current batch - perhaps that was for a specific project because I trawled and did not find any info re using the reference images
In this case the birthday and mother's maiden name come from the +1 reference image and would be unindexed if that image is not used to complete the record

@Dellory Matthews thanks for the explanation - I had clearly misundertood the general instruction and, having a memory that we do not index the reference images, I was unsure when I encountered these batches to review.
And fret not, I will certainly continue to use this QandA forum to ask questions (or answer them if I can) or check my understanding. I am not shy about acknowledging that I do not know everything :) My commitment is to having high quality data in the databases to help people in their genealogial research.
I always figure that, having first made a decent effort to work it out for yourself based on the instructions, the only sensible thing to do is to ask. Even experienced indexers need to check their understanding when an unfamilair document or situation presents itself (ps I have been doing this for years but mostly in the pre-web indexing days and have recently returned after a long break).
Thanks again for your help
