Why can’t I change my ā€œfull nameā€ under account settings? I can change my ā€œdisplay nameā€ but not my ā€œfull nameā€?

This is because your full name comes from your membership record. Contact your ward or branch clerk for assistance if it is not correct.

    Welcome to the "Community.FamilySearch" Forum.

    I am just another 'lowly' User/Patron ...

[ And, I happen to be a Member of the Church ... ]

Further to what 'Dellory' has already proffered ...

Providing that you are referring to, the "Settings", in Your 'FamilySearch' Account' ...

Short Answer: IF, you CANNOT "Change" your "Full Name"; THEN, you MUST be a Member of the Church.

For Users/Patrons of 'FamilySearch', who are Members of the Church, our "Full Name", in the "Settings", of our 'FamilySearch' Account, is TAKEN from OUR (Own) "Membership Record" in the Church.

    As such ...

For Users/Patrons of 'FamilySearch', who are Members of the Church, the ONLY way, to have our "Full Name" CHANGED, in 'FamilySearch', is by having such "Changed", by the 'Clerk' of one's Ward/Branch, in one's "Membership Record" in the Church.

    For example ...

I have two (x2) 'FamilySearch' Accounts.

My principal account; as, a User/Patron, who is a Member of the Church.

Whereas, the other account, is one I have had for many Years, set-up as a User/Patron, who is NOT a member of the Church - which I have used for both, "Testing"; and, "Training", purposes.

In 'FamilySearch', in the "Settings' of...

My principal 'FamilySearch' Account; as, a Member of the Church, in the "Settings", I CANNOT "Change" my "Full Name".

Whereas, on my 'FamilySearch' Account, for ,"Testing"; and, "Training", purposes; as, a non-member of the Church, in the "Settings", I CAN "Change" my "Full Name".

    Furthermore ...

ALL Users/Patrons of 'FamilySearch', both, those who are Members of the Church; and, those who are NOT member of the Church, CAN "Change" the:

    (1) "User Name"; and,

    (2) "Contact Name"; and,

    (3) "Display Name",

in the "Settings" of one's 'FamilySearch' Account.

Whereas, only those User/Patrons of 'FamilySearch', who are NOT members of the Church, can easily "Change" their "Full Name", in their 'FamilySearch' Account.

    And ...

Plus, just so that you are aware; and, to be clear, the "Full Name", in the 'FamilySearch" Account, of my Spouse / Wife, who is also a Member of the Church, is the 'Family Name'/'Surname' of her "Married" name; NOT, that of her "Birth" name.

    Those x4 "Names" of:

    (1) "Full Name"; and/or,

    (2) "User Name"; and/or,

    (3) "Contact Name"; and,

    (4) "Display Name".

in the "Settings", of our 'FamilySearch' Account, technically, DO NOT have a bearing, on OUR particular "Name" in "Family Tree" of 'FamilySearch'; as, we are "Living"; and, we can change that, if we so desire.

    I hope this makes sense.

    I hope this helps.

    Brett
