How do I remove a completely fraudulent section of my family tree?

According to the family tree posted on FamilySearch, my 9th great-grandfather Nicholas Power was the son of an Irish baron. I can show that this is completely false, and that instead he came from England, possibly Liverpool. How can I get the fraudulent lineage removed and the correct information substituted?

If you're seeing this in the FamilySearch FamilyTree (FSFT) and not someone's personal tree or a historical record, then you can fix this. All users of the FamilySearch can edit any deceased person in the FSFT.

Make sure that you cite sources for all conclusions. It is also a good idea to "follow" profiles. If you go to the "Following" tab under Family Tree, you can see a list of all the edits made to the profiles you follow. That way you can easily check to see if someone has gone back and reversed your edits.

You can contact users in the FSFT, which is useful if there is a dispute about genealogical facts. If you encounter abusive or highly incompetent users, then report them in this forum and FS might take action.
