How to get birth certificate/see gravestones in Uruguay
Hi, I live in Australia but was born in Uruguay. I have hit a wall in my research. I am thinking that if I am able to get the birth certificates for certain ancestors in Uruguay this may help. Also if I was able to see a couple of gravestones in my parents' hometowns in Uruguay this could also help break through the wall. I have tried billiongraves.com but without success. Does anyone know if anyone in Uruguay is able to assist?

In many South American countries - individual graves are not always a permanent thing (like they are in the US/ Australia and some other place). and the tradition of placing birth and death dates on grave stones is also much less common. I'm not saying that is the way it is everywhere in South America. But nice pretty organized grave stones with clear birth and death dates is not always a common thing in many parts of the world. (we take it for granted here in the US)
In many cases and in many countries where space is a luxury - graves beyond a certain number of years are actually dug up and removed and replaced by others. . .
