1890 Burning of Records
My great grandmother was born in 1881 the next census would be 1890 but they were destroyed in a fire. It seems there should be a delayed birth certificate of some kind, somewhere. She couldn't have lived her whole life not needing one could she? Where I search to find it? Any help is greatly appreciated!

Depending on where she was living, there may be available state census records that cover the time between the 1880 and 1900 US census. Check out the FamilySearch Research Wiki for the state in which she was living: https://www.familysearch.org/wiki/en/Main_Page
