Correcting erroneous synopsis?
Hello!
How does one make corrections to erroneous information? I used this email to check on my great-grandfather, Carl Frederick Hagemeyer (1828-1875). It says he was a resident of New York in 1860. He was not. He was married in Peoria, Illinois, in June, 1854, and lived there until his sudden death; documentation (Federal Census, naturalization index card, city directory) attached.
Thanks,
Kay Hagemeyer Weiss

We are delighted to help you fix the problems that you are having for your grandfather. Thank you for your post. We are using your information and found Carl Fredrick Hagemeyer. Is this your grandfather? Carl Fredrick Hagemeyer 28 November 1828 – 12 September 1875 KH7R-LS2
It appears that his marriage information is now correct.
You can edit and correct any misinformation about your grandfather in his record. Below gives directions on how to correct vital information.
Also suggest that you go to Latest Changes where you will find what was changed, who made the change, and possibly be able to restore correct information. If some of the misinformation came from another contributor, please send them a message so they will know that their information is incorrect. Also they may have information about your line that you don't. You could be a help to each other.

Looking at the PID KH7R-LS2 for Carl Hagemayer, I see that another researcher has attached the 1860 New York census for Frederick Hagemeyer to the profile.
Same name confusion is a common problem, but it is easy to fix. This article outlines the steps to remove the New York census from the profile. https://www.familysearch.org/help/helpcenter/article/how-do-i-remove-sources-from-people-in-family-tree
Attaching correct records along with a reason statement will help to prevent further same name confusion in the future.
Hope this helps.

Hello @KayWeiss
It appears that the situation you are describing relates to how the FamilySearch system works to create the "New Discovery Page" for our ancestors. The software extracts information from the person's details page and creates the Life Summary found on the New Discovery Page.
If you found errors in that Life Summary, they can be traced back to the Details page. As the others have indicated, this information can be corrected so that the Life Summary will be more accurate.
While the 1860 census at New York was removed as a source, there is an item in Other Information that is still listed: Residence 1860, 1st Ward Peoria City, Peoria, Illinois, United States (636 South Adams, Peoria, Illinois (according to 1861 Peoria City Directory).
Please keep in mind that the New Discovery Page is not updated immediately after making corrections on the person page -- it may take as long as two weeks for changes to be reflected in the Life Summary.
Since you do know that your ancestor is in the 1860 census at Peoria, Illinois, we recommend that you attach that as a source. Here is a link to the search results page for the 1860 census at Peoria:
Your great-grandfather is listed as Chas Hagermeyer, birth 1831, Prussia Germy, Peoria City 1st Ward, Peoria, Illinois.
Best wishes!
