Completed Ordinance Update Bug
I completed an endowment today. The 'Reservation' page, 'Completed' view confirms this.
However, the 'ordinance' view for this person does not show the ordinance as being completed. It has been over 5 hours since the ordinance would have been recorded at the temple
Prior to the temples closing, a completed ordinance showed up immediately on the person's ordinance view.
It doesn't make sense that one part of the familysearch views shows as complete, while other views do not.

It would be really nice if familysearch commented on these messages. Is this a bug or a feature?
Is it worth pointing these things out?
Now that we don't get our physical record (ordinance cards) returned to us, the electronic record needs to be reliable.
How is it that 2 different views of the same data on the same webpage are out of sync?
Do I need to call the temple recorder every time I see something strange like this?
If 2 views give conflicting data, which one am I supposed to believe? And if they are not always in sync, how do I know that a month from now both records might show that the ordinance is not complete?

Hi there, I'm just another FS patron. I noticed the same thing on an ordinance that I did. I called the particular temple it was done at. The person in the office told me that sometimes it can take about 24 hours for all the pages to get updated. She suggested I wait a day. Sure enough, by the next day everything was updated.

Before the temples closed, I could walk out of the temple, turn on my phone, and all ordinances would show as updated. It was essentially instantaneous. What change was made that makes it take longer to update?
We also received a message with a list of all of the ordinances completed.
Plus, we had the paper copies.
It was easy to verify that everything was properly recorded. Occasionally something would get missed and I could walk back in to the temple and have the recorder fix it.
Now we don't get the paper cards back, we don't get a message with the completed ordinance list, AND the different views may or may not show that ordinances are completed, and some views may show them complete, while other views show them incomplete.
Having to call the recorder's office and waiting 24 hours (or more) is a lot of extra work, especially if you have done a large batch of sealings or baptisms. That can be a lot of wasted time checking to see if ordinances have been recorded. And if you wait too long the temple will shred the cards and you have to repeat the ordinance.
Also, if you have a large batch of ordianances, you have no record when you leave the temple, so your only option is to manually write down the ordinance and PID's info before you go, then keep checking your manual list until they show up in the system, but if you wait too long, you miss your window to have the temple look for that particular ordinance card and you have to redo the work. That is a terrible system and a big step backwards.
The data systems were reliable and updated instantaneously before covid. Why are they worse now?

I hear that you are frustrated with new way of doing things. I can see that it would be difficult to accept those changes when the previous way worked so well for you. If it helps any, I've completed over 600 ordinance in the last year & 1/2 and only once did the "completed ordinance" page not sync with the person's profile at the same time. Every time the ordinances done were recorded.
To be sure that the card does get scanned, the recorder's office does it twice. If there is a big pile of cards to do from everyone attending the temple, that may take a little while to do. If we have a bit of patience with those people, & the computer system, we may not need to call the office at all.

I'm have a tremendous challenge getting my response to post. So I'm hoping that doing it in smaller parts will help.

Yes, we might want to do more paperwork to keep track of the names we take to the temple, such as a written list. I have done this numerous times. May you be blessed in your efforts to take names to the temple.

One reason things had to change is that there are more users around the world accessing FamilySearch.org and attending the temples. A way needed to be found for the system to handle all of the increased load. Proper recording of the ordinances was the thing that they focused on in making the changes. There was a post about it a while back. I'll see if I can find it for you.

Hi, I just saw your post, wanted to give you a suggestion that may help you especially if you have your own printer, I am not computer word savvy, so I hope what I'm about to say is clear, you may want to highlight the whole page of names, then on Google tools (or where you access your printer), click print, a preview comes up that shows you what will be printed, if this is okay, click print, once that's done, you'll have a personal copy of the whole page, this may be helpful especially for the ordinance cards that show they've been printed, this is your copy to keep, which you can take to the Temple, as each ordinance is completed you may write in the Temple name and date, sort of making a note of them yourself, this way you can keep track and have proof for yourself, you will have to do each page separate, but at least you'll have them to mark and look at later if something doesn't show up right away. Did I say this clearly? Sorry, but it's difficult for me to explain things clearly and I tend to say the same things more than once. I hope my suggestion helps you and thank you for doing Temple work on behalf of your deceased family.

Thanks for the suggestions. I guess printing out temple cards twice could help track them, but they becomes pretty cumbersome when doing more than a few at a time, or when sharing with family or other groups. Like if one gives a large batch of cards to youth visiting the temple and I have no idea how many might have been done on that particular trip. If something gets missed in recording I will have no idea and will have to just repeat the work.
I have about a hundred ordinance cards that I printed out before the temple stopped returning them though, and it is painful to try to manage them, especially when I had printed out all ordinances (BCIESP) and the electronic record shows them as 'printed' when in reality the temple takes them and destroys them. Going back one by one and reprinting is not a workable solution, and takes too much time which I'd rather spend searching for people.
