Feature Request: 2 character indexing application
Reference: https://eventguide.com/topics/two_digit_month_abbreviations.html
To reach the month of February all that must be done is type "F" and then Tab/Enter.
But for May you have to type 3 characters to reach that month correctly. I suggest if a user types "MY" then May would be selected from the drop down. And on down the list.
Thanks for considering my feature request

We used to be able to type MM for May, JJ for June, JJJ for July, and AA for August. I don't think we heard why that feature was discontinued. It was fun and quick.

This suggestion is something you might want to post in Ideas. You can find the link to Ideas on the left side of your page. FamilySearch always welcomes ideas from guests!

Something like either of these ideas, or some hybrid, is possible (I believe) right now using an AutoHotkey script (on a PC). There are scripting languages for a Mac. I did this sort of thing in another context several years ago - I.e. shortcuts for relationships in Obituaries, when we did lots of them. Dellory might remember this. She helped me get the one-page documentation sheet looking very nice.
Or probably if you’re using an iPad, and maybe a Mac (a guess), by using Text Replacement and disabling auto-correction. You might want to do the latter (disable auto-correction) routinely anyway if indexing on an iPad. On an iPad go to Settings>Keyboard to see and explore these options.
The problem with anything not built-in to the Indexing program is that you need to be careful to avoid a combo that would be unwelcome in another context, or even in a non-date field while indexing. So I would not use f or fe for February. I might use f’ or fe’. The apostrophe is easy to add with your right pinky, and it creates a key combo that is unusual, and would trigger when you Tab (on a PC). All-small letters avoids needing to use the Shift key.
