Thank you for your post.
Have you tried our Research Wiki? When you look up a specific place in the Wiki, it will help you understand about that area, including what records there are and for what time period they are available. Due to privacy issues, most birth records will not be available online for someone born in 1956. The Wiki may provide you with address or phone of the depository for more recent records that you might be able to contact to see if you can access them.
You access the Wiki by clicking on the Search button at the top of the page and then clicking on the Research Wiki button at the bottom of the drop-down box.
You mentioned your brother was born in Lewiston, ME. Below is the Wiki link for Lewiston, ME
On this page you can see that Online Birth records only go to 1900. There is and address and phone number for the Town Clerk, who is responsible for these records, that you maybe able to contact.
You also mentioned your brother was born in Cornish, ME. Below is the link to Cornish, ME
Again, birth records are only available up to 1921. There is also the address and phone number for the Cornish Town Clerk.
If you know where his father was born you can search that area in the Wiki also. You might also try searching the Records section found in the Search drop-down box.
Hopefully these links may be able to help you find information for the birth records of your relatives.

@AlbertaCorriveau, From the Maine Division of Public Health Systems, "By law, Maine birth records less than 75 years old, marriage records less than 50 years old, death records less than 25 years old and fetal deaths less than 50 years old are considered to be private. In order to inspect these documents, or to obtain copies, an individual must prove that they are permitted by law to do so"
The following URL for the Maine Division of Public Health Systems does provide criteria and guidance for obtaining this vital records; https://www.maine.gov/dhhs/mecdc/public-health-systems/data-research/vital-records/order/access-id-photo-requirements.html
